Saint Peter's Comes Up Short Against Siena, Janneh Scores In Double-Figures

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Peacocks battled hard but came up short against Siena on Thursday night, falling by a final score of 60-68.


HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks wasted no time setting the tone, igniting their offense early. Freshman forward Linda Amaning drove to the rim with confidence, followed by a strong drive from sophomore forward Fatmata Janneh. Redshirt sophomore Nikola Zdenkova then delivered a clutch three-pointer, keeping the momentum rolling. Freshman forward De'Naya Rippey added to the surge with a smooth layup, capping off an energetic first quarter. Saint Peter's held a 12-8 lead heading into the break.

Fatmata Janneh kept the Peacocks' momentum rolling into the second quarter, starting with an aggressive drive to the basket before sinking a smooth jumper. Saint Peter's caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers courtesy of graduate guard Laila Grant and Janneh. With a strong offensive rhythm, the Peacocks closed out the first half with a 31-26 lead.

Coming out of the half, Janneh showcased her versatility with a smooth hook shot, while Amaning powered through the defense for a strong drive to the basket. Zdenkova continued to make an impact from beyond the arc, draining a three-pointer to keep the Peacocks in the fight. Amaning capped off the quarter with another determined drive to the rim, but Saint Peter's found themselves trailing as Siena took a 45-42 lead heading into the final period.

In the Peacocks final push,  Rippey powered through the defense for a key layup. Junior Louella Allana added to the rally with a clutch three-pointer, keeping Saint Peter's within striking distance. Rippey came through again with another layup as the Peacocks fought hard to close the gap. Allana wasted no time finding Nikola Zdenkova with a sharp pass, setting up an easy basket to add another two points for the Peacocks. Grant added to the Peacocks' offensive push, confidently knocking down a three-pointer to keep the momentum going.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Fatmata Janneh delivered another dominant performance, leading the Peacocks with 26 points on an efficient 10-of-17 shooting (58.8%). Janneh was active on the boards, grabbing seven defensive rebounds while also adding two assists.

De'Naya Rippey made the most of her 25 minutes on the court, showcasing efficiency and hustle. She scored eight points on an impressive three-of-four shooting (75.0%).  Rippey was a force on the glass, securing five rebounds, including four on the offensive end, giving the Peacocks second-chance opportunities.
