Blair, Gooden, and McLaughlin Lead Peacocks on Day One of MAAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY – The Saint Peter's track and field team completed day one of the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Armory, competing across multiple events in search of podium finishes. 

At the end of the first day, Sacred Heart (55.5 points) leads the women's standings, while Rider (40.25 points) holds the top spot on the men's side.

Women's Highlights

For Saint Peter's, Ciara Brown and Kennedy Vaughn opened the competition in the women's weight throw, with Vaughn hitting a personal best of 13.57m, finishing 13th overall, just ahead of Brown, who recorded a throw of 13.48m. The MAAC title in the event went to Manhattan's Alexandra Caraher, who led the 25-person field with a mark of 16.29m.

In the women's 60m hurdles, two Peacocks secured top-15 placements as Balikis Iyiola finished 14th (9.293), just one-thousandth of a second ahead of teammate Mikell Dolo (9.294). Adriana Rollins also competed, crossing the line in 9.63. The top eight finishers advanced to the finals, with Rider's Mariah Stephens leading the pack in 8.60.

Shania McDuffie delivered a standout performance in the women's 60m dash, hitting a new personal best of 7.88, which placed her 13th overall in a competitive field of 26 sprinters. Samyah Wilson also represented the Peacocks, finishing in 8.14. The top eight moved on to the finals, led by Quinnipiac's Nyasia Dailey, who clocked a personal-best 7.53 in prelims.

In the women's 400m, Diamond McLaughlin secured a spot in the finals after finishing third overall with a time of 57.37, slicing three seconds off her previous best from the Dr. Sander Invitational. Adriana Rollins also competed, recording a new PR of 1:02.58. Quinnipiac's Rylie Smith (56.33) and Isabella Anzaldo (56.44) took the top two spots heading into the final, where McLaughlin will race in heat one, lane three at 5:45 PM.

Men's Highlights

Cashieve Blair dominated in the 60m dash prelims, winning his heat and posting the fastest time of the day at 6.80. Right behind him was Delano Gooden, who also won his heat and secured the second-fastest time overall at 6.83. Dylan Williams clinched the final qualifying spot in eighth, running a personal-best 7.01. Ameen Zubair narrowly missed advancing, finishing ninth in 7.03, just 0.02 seconds shy of a finals berth. The Peacocks will have three sprinters in the men's 60m final at 5:40 PM, with Blair in lane four, Gooden in lane five, and Williams in lane one, all poised to chase a championship.

In the men's long jump, Amari Campbell placed fifth overall out of 25 competitors, recording a best jump of 6.89m. Temiloluwa Adesetan also delivered a strong performance, finishing 14th with a personal-best 6.62m. Manhattan's Thomas Dubnov Raz claimed the MAAC title with a leap of 7.12m, tying his career-best mark.

Hensley Jean Baptiste earned himself a finals spot in the 400m, crossing the line in 49.28, good for fourth overall in prelims. Sacred Heart's Lance Hayes took the top qualifying position with a personal-best 48.66. Connor Ziolkowski (50.28), Ajani Peck-Wekunda (51.10), and Malique Jackson (52.25) also competed for the Peacocks. Jean Baptiste will race in the 400m final at 5:55 PM, running in heat one, lane six.

The men's 200m prelims saw another first-place finish for Blair, who stormed to victory in his heat with a new indoor personal best 21.43—the fastest time of the day. Gooden also secured a spot in the final, finishing second in his heat (21.80) and earning the sixth overall qualifying position. Zubair (22.63), Williams (21.81), and Adesetan (22.86) also competed in the event for Saint Peter's. Blair and Gooden will race in the 200m final at 6:35 PM, with Blair in heat two, lane five, and Gooden in heat one, lane four.

Day two action kicks off with Brown, Meador, and Vaughn in the women's shot put as the Peacocks look to build on their performances and secure podium finishes.
