Women's Cross Country Host FDU Before Whole Squad Races at Metropolitan Championships

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's cross country team gears up for a two-race week. Both the men's and women's programs will be in action, with the women's team hosting FDU for a dual meet on Wednesday, October 8, before the whole squad heads to the Metropolitan Championships, hosted by NJIT, on Saturday, October 11. The home meet will take place at Jaroschak Field with the first gun set for 9 a.m., while Saturday's race at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J., is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Shirleysa Rivas has been the lone female competitor for Saint Peter's so far this fall, racing individually at both Manhattan's Jasper Invite and Lehigh's Paul Short Run. In her season debut at the Jasper Invite, she clocked a 6K personal best of 24:48.8, trimming nearly two minutes off her time from the 2024 MAAC Championships (26:42.5). Rivas continued her strong form at Lehigh, finishing in 25:09.8 and placing 301st in a competitive field at the Paul Short Run.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS

She opened the year with a 19:26 in the 5K at the NJIT Season Opener and followed with a 20:17.7 in the 6K at the Ted Owen Invitational, placing 63rd overall.
