NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team (3-7-1, 1-4-0 MAAC) almost mounted a huge comeback against Merrimack (3-6-1, 1-3-0 MAAC) but ultimately fell to the Warriors, 3-4, at Martone-Mejail Field on Saturday night.
The Peacocks had a tough first 45 minutes as they surrendered four goals to the Warriors, but they had a strong showing in the second half to end on a positive note in North Andover.
Tim Strele recorded his second consecutive two-goal performance with scores in the 69th and 82nd minutes. He now has 11 goals for 22 points on the season. Strele leads the MAAC in goals, and the next most has six.
Moritz Conrad made a great diving save early in the game, but the Warriors' offense managed to gain more and more momentum with each goal after the first. After the four goals in the first half, Conrad didn't allow any scores in the second as Saint Peter's fought back into the game.
Strele started the comeback with a penalty kick goal, and just five minutes later,
Leo Coval netted his second of the season. Coval then assisted Strele's next goal as the Peacocks came within one of the Warriors in the 82nd minute. Saint Peter's was unable to tie the game in the closing minutes as Merrimack picked up the 4-3 victory.
