NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team (2-6-1, 0-3-0 MAAC) put up a great fight on the road, but ultimately fell to Iona (4-2-2, 2-0-0 MAAC) in a 3-5 game on Wednesday at Mazzella Field.
The Peacocks were led by graduate defenseman
Micah O'Garro, who scored two of the team's three goals.
Connall McErlain added another goal for Saint Peter's, giving the team a 3-2 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Gaels wasted no time scoring the equalizer with a penalty kick before netting two more goals for the win.
Despite the defeat, the Peacocks' offense showed great flashes of chemistry throughout the match. Iona made it a point to shut down
Tim Strele on the attack, but that opened the door for other Peacocks.
Harry Davison,
Leo Coval,
Omre Etienne and
Kaloyan Somov all registered at least one shot as Saint Peter's totaled 11 on the day and five shots on goal. McErlain led all players with four shots.
Tiernan Garvey and Etienne each recorded an assist and were the only Peacocks to tally an assist.
