Box Score EMMITSBURG, MD– The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team were defeated by Mount St. Mary's by a score of 56-46 Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh opened up the floor with an early lay-up, while following up by connecting two free-throws. Janneh had scored six points in the first 5 minutes of the game. Saint Peter's held the Mount scoreless for three minutes. Graduate forward Maria Fux shot from downtown.
Graduate guard Mikia Keith got the Saint Peter's offense rolling with scoring in the paint, tying the score 11-11 at the start of the second quarter. Senior guard Rachel Kuhl shot beyond the three-point arc, while sophomore guard Jada Leonard shot from downtown. Graduate guard Maya Hyacienth connected a pair of free-throws. At half the score was 23-20 in favor of the Mountaineers.
Saint Peter's opened the second half with Janneh scoring a pair of lay-ups. Kuhl connected a pair of free-throws. Janneh had a total of 12 points in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter the score was 39-34.
Janneh scored in the paint early in the fourth quarter. Sophomore guard Reilly Sunday and Leonard both connected two free-throws. The Mountaineers answered with a jumper to extend their lead but held off a Peacock rally down the stretch.
Janneh led the way with 24 points, eight rebounds and one steal, while shooting 62.5% from the field. The squad collected 26 rebounds, shot 35.7% from the floor and 92.9% from the free-throw line.
