JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell short Thursday afternoon to Mount St. Marys' by a score of 52-49. The Peacocks had two scorers who secured double-digits, sophomore guard Jada Leonard and senior guard Rachel Kuhl.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore guard Jada Leonard opened up the floor Thursday afternoon with a layup. Leonard went 5-of-11 in field goals, shooting 60% beyond the three-point arc, securing four rebounds and 17 points. She was the leading scorer for the Peacocks this afternoon.
During the first quarter, sophomore guard Reilly Sunday had a driving layup, which tied the score 8-8 early. Following that junior forward Layla Laws had a layup that allowed the Peacocks to take on the lead. Leonard shot beyond the three-point arc, leaving the score tied 18-18 early in the second quarter.
Senior guard Rachel Kuhl had a pair of three-pointers, assisted by graduate student Mikia Keith and junior Layla Laws midway through the second quarter. Kuhl went 4-of-7 in three-pointers and secured 12 points. As the game approached the half, the score was 26-25 in favor of the Mountaineers.
With just 20 seconds into the third quarter,, Keith drained a trifecta, helping the Peacocks make their way back after trailing at the break. Leonard scored another triple to put the Peacocks back in front 30-29.
At the end of the third quarter, the score was 39-35 Mountaineers. Ultimately, the Peacocks fell behind in the fourth quarter and were unable to overcome the deficit.
Freshman Fatmata Janneh secured her sixth career double-double this season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Kuhl went 4-of-8 from the floor. The Peacocks had a total of 44 rebounds and nine steals.

Following this game, the Peacocks host Rider at Run Baby Run Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, January 27th. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
