RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team lost to Manhattan 65-45 Thursday night at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY. Senior guard Kourtney Crane led the team in scoring with 12 points. She was also second on the team in rebounds with five.
The Peacocks could not buy a basket in the first quarter. The team only scored four points. Junior center Kassondra Brown scored the Peacocks first points of the quarter with 54 seconds left in the first. Freshman forward Kaila Dawkins would add another basket later and the Peacocks would trail 14-4 after one.
Crane did most of her work in the second quarter, as she scored ten of her twelve in the frame, which started with a jumper less than a minute in. She would go on to make two deep threes in the quarter as well. Graduate guard Kendrea Williams, who was kept quiet almost the entire game, picked off a pass and went coast-to-coast for a layup midway through the quarter. Manhattan led by 18 at the half.
The third quarter was very similar to the first quarter for Saint Peter's, as they were only able to score nine points. Brown and Crane each scored baskets within the first three minutes, but were unable to stay on the floor for most of the second half due to foul trouble. With not much happening for the Peacocks, senior guard Tyara McQueen entered the game and made a three for Saint Peter's with less than a minute to go in the quarter. The Jaspers led by 26 after three.
The deficit would prove to be too much for Saint Peter's. One of the bright spots for the Peacocks in the fourth was a driving layup by senior guard Nickelle O'Neil who finished it and was fouled. Sophomore forward Taylor Abraham and sophomore guard Rachel Kuhl also got on the score sheet in the contest. Manhattan would end up winning by 20.
