  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team is set to visit Fordham in the Bronx tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
  • The contest is the second game of the regular season for the 2022-23 campaign under new head coach Jen Leedham.
  • The Peacocks are coming off of a 73-39 loss to Seton Hall on Monday.

ARRGH

  • Saint Peter's lost their opener to the Seton Hall Pirates by a score of 73-39 on Monday Night.
  • Junior guard Rachel Kuhl led the Peacocks in scoring on the night, getting 12 and netting four three-pointers, which was a new career high.
  • Graduate center Jazmine Carter played a career high 39 minutes and grabbed a career high seven rebounds in the game.
  • Seven players made their Saint Peter's debut.

The 2021-22 Peacocks

  • Saint Peter's finished last season with 13 overall wins and nine in the league circuit.
  • Among the victories came marquee wins over some of the conference's top programs, including a 74-68 win against Niagara.
  • The Peacocks won their first game in the MAAC Tournament over defending champions Marist. They beat the Red Foxes in the first round 49-29 in Atlantic City, NJ. The Peacocks lost 63-42 in the Quarterfinals to Quinnipiac.
  • The Peacocks lost all five starters from last year's team due to graduation or transfer.

New Faces at the Top

  • Jen Leedham was named the ninth head coach in program history this summer. She has been a Division I assistant coach in the New York metropolitan area for the past six years, most recently three years as an assistant coach at St. Francis Brooklyn. Last winter, SFC posted a 17-10 overall record and finished 13-3 in the Northeast Conference with Leedham as an assistant, finishing second in the NEC standings and setting a new program record for victories. Under Leedham's guidance, the Terriers led the NEC in a number of offensive categories including scoring offense (64.7 ppg) and assists per game (14.3). 
  • David Jollon joins from Fairfield as the Associate Head Coach for the 2022-23 season. He spent the last seven years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at MAAC Rival Fairfield. The Stags won the MAAC Regular Season and MAAC Tournament championships last season and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
  • Rounding out the staff is Jason Marshall, who spent last year at Ramapo College. He joins as an assistant coach. Johannah Leedem-Warner, the sister of head coach Jen Leedham, is also an assistant coach on this year's roster. Elena Pulanco joins as the Director of Basketball Operations.

Who's Back?

  • The Peacocks return four players from last year's roster.
  • Among them is sophomore forward Kaila Dawkins, who played a big role on last year's team. She averaged 4.8 points per game and 4.1 assists per game and scored in double figures six times.
  • Junior guard Rachel Kuhl looks to step into a greater role this season amidst all of the departures. The Old Bridge, New Jersey native appeared in 24 games and started twice last season, averaging 4.3 points per game.
  • Sophomore guards Amaris Mills and Imani Felix round out the returners for the Peacocks. The two combined to appear in 21 games for the Peacocks.

New Faces

  • Saint Peter's welcomes eight newcomers to the squad for the upcoming campaign, including four true-freshmen and four transfers. 
  • The rookie class includes two New York City residents Jada Leonard from the Bronx and Endyna Greene from Brooklyn. Tiara Bellamy, a New Jersey product, is from Plainfield. Kaylynn Asberry rounds out the freshman class from St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • The team added four transfers in Erin Harris (Northwestern St.), Jazmine Carter (Fairfield), Cristina Rojas Acevedo (Lamar CC), and Jada Williams (Temple).

Up Next

  • The Peacocks continue the regular season on the road with a non-conference matchup on Friday, November 18, as the team faces Morgan State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
