JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team defeated Canisius by a score of 74-55 Thursday night in Run Baby Run Arena. Graduate guard Kendrea Williams once again led the team in scoring, totaling a season high 28 points.
The first quarter was played evenly between the two teams. The tandem of Williams and junior center Kassondra Brown scored the first eight points of the game for Saint Peter's, each scoring four. Senior guard Kourtney Crane then got in the action, scoring all five of her points in the game by the end of the quarter, as the Peacocks trailed by one after one.
Brown scored the first points of the second quarter and the Peacocks never relinquished the lead. Senior guard Nickelle O'Neil picked up a steal within the first minute of the quarter and went coast to coast and finished the layup. She finished with six points in the quarter. The home side led by as much as eight in the quarter, and led by five at the break.
The third quarter turned into the Kendrea Williams show for the Peacocks. She scored eight of the first 10 points in the quarter, including making two threes. She got a total of three threes in the quarter, and had a total of 14 points in the third quarter alone. Brown scored the final four points of the third quarter, as the Peacocks led by 19 at the end of the third quarter.
Williams again dominated at the start of the fourth quarter, scoring six straight to open the quarter and ballooning the Peacocks lead to 22. Both teams scored 14 points in the quarter, as the Peacocks swept the Golden Griffins on the season.
