GAME NOTES

Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team returns to the Garden State on Monday for its first home tilt of the new decade, as the Peacocks will welcome Siena for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game is also the team's first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game at the Yanitelli Center this season.
  • The Peacocks' will be looking to even their conference ledger after dropping their MAAC opener to Marist on Saturday night in Poughkeepsie.
  • Saint Peter's was off to a hot start, leading Marist by two (27-25) at the end of the first quarter, before Marist was able to regain the lead late in the second quarter and maintain it for the remainder of the game.
  • Taiah Thornton scored a team-high 23 points in the affair, while sophomore Wil'lisha Jackson dropped a season-high 16 points.
Series with the Saints:
  • The Peacocks and the Saints have met frequently over the years, as Saint Peter's enters Monday's game with an overall record of 31-40 against Siena.
  • The two sides first met the year before the MAAC was founded, when the Peacocks took a 67-52 win at home on Dec. 9, 1980.
  • The Peacocks will seek to break an 18-game losing streak to the Saints, having gone winless against Siena since a 53-45 victory in Loudonville on Feb. 13, 2010.
  • The last time that Saint Peter's defeated Siena in Jersey City came in the first game against the Saints in 2010, when the Peacocks triumphed, 46-40.
New Highs:
  • Despite falling just one point short of her season-high 24 points, Thornton was able to sink a season-high 11 field goals on Jan. 4 against the Red Foxes.
  • The performance also marks the only occasion thus far that Thornton has broken the double-digit mark in field goals.
  • Not only did Jackson's 16 points constitute her highest scoring performance of the year so far, but her nine rebounds are the most by the sophomore this year as well.
  • Jackson also proved to arguably be the team's most efficient scorer against Marist, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the field, including hitting two out of three shots from beyond the arc.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks will remain at home for a Thursday (Jan. 9) afternoon matchup with Manhattan at 4 p.m. The contest will also double as MAAC Kid's Day Out, where parents are encouraged to bring out their children for a fun day with the Peacocks.
