Late Rally Comes Up Short for Peacocks Against Albany on Tuesday

The Peacocks fell in their home-opener 9-7 to Albany

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Peacocks scored six runs over the final three innings, but the team's late comeback attempt came up short as Saint Peter's fell 9-7 to Albany in the home-opener on Tuesday.
 
Game Notes
  • Albany scored one run in the first, then three runs in the third inning.
  • Saint Peter's scored its first run in the bottom of the third inning when Nicholas Sciubba scored from third following a ground out by Peter Ferony.
  • In the top of the fourth, Steve Epstein took the mound for the Peacocks in relief, giving up no runs and only three hits through 3.0 innings.
  • Epstein retired the side in both the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Albany added four more runs in the seventh, extending its lead to 8-1 over Saint Peter's.
  • Despite giving up the four runs in the top of the seventh, the Peacocks were able to respond in the home half of the inning with three runs.
  • With bases loaded by way of walks drawn by Edwin Feliciano and Hunter Mason and Sciubba getting hit by a pitch, Ferony singled to left field for his second RBI of the afternoon.
  • With the bases still loaded, Jared Quintero got hit by a pitch, scoring Mason from third.
  • The next batter, John Gavura, came to the plate and forced a walk to score the inning's final run and cut the deficit to 8-4.
  • The Peacocks kept Albany scoreless in the top of the eighth and cut the deficit to just two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Ferony kept his big day going by hitting a triple to right field with two on, clearing the bases and making the score 8-6.
  • Down 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Connor recorded an RBI on a ground out that advanced Gavura home to cut the score to 9-7.
  • The final out was made by Albany, leaving one on for the Peacocks in the final inning.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Ferony went 2 for 4 from the plate and posted a team-high four RBIs.
  • Sciubba also hit 2 for 4 in the game and scored two runs.
  • Mason added two runs while Connor recorded a run and RBI.
  • Quintero and Gavura each had one RBI against Albany.
