Danny Ramirez

Danny Ramirez enters his third season as the baseball head coach at Saint Peter's in 2018-19.

In year number two, Ramirez led the Peacocks to a win over MAAC playoff qualifier Siena and a 7-1 blowout win over Iona for the program’s largest margin of victory in over three years and largest MAAC margin of victory in four years. His ace, Willie Krajnik, became the first player under Ramirez to earn all-league honors, being selected to the All-MAAC Second team. Over his two seasons as the skipper, Ramirez has guided 15 student-athletes to MAAC All-Academic honors.

Ramirez joined Saint Peter's in September 2016 with over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, and scout in the Northeast. As a player at Bronx Community College he was a member of the 1994 CUNY City Championship team and the 1995 team that played in the Junior College World Series. Ramirez has coached and managed at many levels beginning his career with the Boys Club of New York and Major League Baseballs RBI program where he led several teams to city championships while working with inner city youth of all ages. Ramirez then coached at Lasalle Academy High School for 2 years before accepting the Head Men's Baseball Coach position at Globe Institute of Technology. At Globe, he led the Knights to the school's first district tournament win before moving on to Monroe College in 2007. At Monroe College, Ramirez was part of the coaching staff as the program transitioned from a Division III program in 2006, into one of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the Northeast. He served as the Infield/Outfield Coach, Strength Training and Agility development, and most recently as Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach. Throughout the past nine years, Monroe has produced over 60 NCAA signees and several players that were either drafted by Major League Organizations or signed free agent contracts to play professional baseball.

Ramirez has taught history and physical education in the New York City Public School system as well as within the New York City Catholic School system. In 2012 Ramirez founded the New York Giants Youth Baseball Club in his community on the lower east side of Manhattan. The organization gives aspiring baseball players and inner city youth an opportunity to learn the game of baseball, stay out of trouble, and be active in their community as they are guided towards improving themselves academically, socially and athletically. In collaboration with Major League Baseball and several other organizations the New York Giants Youth Baseball Club is able to provide trips to other states, historical sites, camps, clinics, professional baseball games and many other activities for children and teenagers on the lower east side of Manhattan.

In 1999, Ramirez completed the MLB Scouting Bureaus Scout Development Program in Tucson Arizona and brings to Saint Peter's University a vast knowledge of the game and scouting. He also brings a strong foundation in infield/outfield defense, speed and agility, and pitching. A native of the lower east side of Manhattan, Ramirez currently resides in Manhattan with his wife Katherine Chicon and their two sons Daniel and Diego.
