Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will head south to do battle against the Delaware State Hornets on Saturday, Dec. 7. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
  • The game marks the final non-conference road game for the Peacocks, who currently hold a 2-3 record away from Jersey City thus far.
  • The Peacocks are coming off a close 76-73 defeat to neighboring NJIT last night but nearly pulled off a 12-point comeback late in that game before ultimately falling by three.
  • Redshirt junior Taiah Thornton broke the 20-point mark for her first time in a Peacocks' uniform, recording a team-high 24 points while grabbing five rebounds.
  • Kendrea Williams and Briyanah Richardson joined Thornton in double-digit scoring, knocking down 17 and 15 points, respectively.
History with the Hornets:
  • The Peacocks and the Hornets will match up for the eighth time in the all-time series on Saturday.
  • The Peacocks hold a perfect overall 7-0 record against the Hornets and will look to add to their advantage this weekend. The first meeting between the two squads came back on Dec. 11, 1985, when the Peacocks defeated the Hornets, 67-49, in Delaware.
  • Saint Peter's and Delaware State will face off against each other for the first time in more than a decade, after the last meeting between the teams on Jan. 2, 2009, which Saint Peter's won 49-40.
Consistency is Key:
  • Through the Peacocks' six games this season, Thornton has scored in double-figures in every contest, with her lowest scoring performance of 10 points coming against Morgan State on November 26.
  • Thornton also leads the team in scoring average, as the Pennsauken native currently boasts a 16.5 points per game average while playing 29.2 minutes per game.
  • Williams, who has also played in all six games for the Peacocks this season, has scored 10 or more in five of her appearances while averaging 15.3 points and leading the team in three-pointers made with 21; she does all that while shooting an impressive 50 percent from the field and a team-high 47 percent from deep.
  • Richardson and redshirt junior Gabrielle Harris have each posted 10 points or more in four of their five games played this season, recording season-highs of 15 and 27, respectively.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks will return to Jersey City and enjoy a lengthy two-week rest period before they host Fairleigh Dickinson in a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Dec. 21.
