GAME NOTES

Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team is set to host the Morgan State Bears in its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 26 in a 5:00 p.m. opening tip.
  • The Peacocks are well rested heading into Tuesday's matchup after last playing nine days ago on Sunday, Nov. 17.
  • The team has split its first four games of the year -- all on the road -- and most recently concluded a two-game road stint in the DMV with a 92-80 setback at Howard.
  • Redshirt juniors Gabrielle Harris and Taiah Thornton led the offensive front for the Peacocks in that game against the Bison, with each player tallying 18 points in the outing.
Series with the Bears:
  • The Peacocks hold a healthy lead in the series against the Bears, as they head into Tuesday night 10-1 all-time against Morgan State.
  • The first meeting between the two squads was on March 8, 1980, in which Saint Peter's took a narrow 63-62 victory at home.
  • The only loss from the Peacocks came in the 1981 EAIAW Tournament when the Bears won 70-61 in the third round of play on March 14.
  • Tuesday's game will be the first time the teams square up across the court from each other in nearly a decade, as the Peacocks last defeated the Bears, 55-51, in the 2009 Saint Peter's Holiday Classic.
Shooters Shoot:
  • The Peacocks have been an offensive force this season, putting up at least 80 points in each of their first four games, a streak which has not been accomplished by the program since the 1996-97 season.
  • Heading into Tuesday's game against Morgan State, the Peacocks are tied for 16th in the country in scoring with 85.0 points per game, sharing the spot with Florida Gulf Coast University.
  • SPU's 85 points per game average ranks at the top of the MAAC in offensive scoring followed by Marist at 74.5.
  • Four Peacocks are averaging double-digit scoring on the season, including Harris and Thornton who are both putting up roughly 16.3 points per game, followed by classmate Kendrea Williams (14.5) and junior Yamel Abreu (10.7).
  • Among the squad's top scorers, Williams has been on point from beyond the arc this year, knocking down a team-leading 14 triples while shooting an impressive 46.7 percent from deep.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks head to nearby NJIT next week to take on the Highlanders on Dec. 4 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
