Saint Peter’s Swept By Red Foxes On The Road

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's volleyball team (5-8, 0-2 MAAC) dropped its second conference game to Marist (2-11, 1-1 MAAC) in three sets (26-28, 22-25, 18-25) at McCann Arena on Saturday evening.

The Peacocks had a tough time creating offensive opportunities and getting the Red Foxes out of system, which led to a sweep on the road. Saint Peter's finished with a .185 hitting percentage compared to Marist's .301.

For the Peacocks, Lara Martinez led all players with seven kills off the bench while Jaizahir Marrero George, Sibana González Acevedo and Indira T. Benitez Dumeng all recorded six kills each. Valeria Torres had a positive impact off the bench as well, totaling five blocks and two kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE:
The opening set was a battle, with Saint Peter's matching Marist point for point and pushing the Red Foxes to extra rallies. Strong net play from Torres and Marrero George kept the Peacocks in it, but Marist's hitting efficiency in the late stages proved the difference. After several lead changes and set-point opportunities, Marist narrowly pulled it out, 28–26.

SET TWO: Saint Peter's again stayed close in the second set, using a balanced attack from Benitez Dumeng and Martinez to keep the score tight. Despite the Peacocks' effort, Marist's steady ball control and clean execution helped them go ahead late. Saint Peter's made a push in the final points, but Marist closed strong to take the set, 25–22, and go up 2–0 in the match.

SET THREE: The third set saw Marist establish control early and never fully let Saint Peter's back in. While the Peacocks continued to battle at the net with key blocks, Marist's offense clicked at a high rate and steadily built separation. Saint Peter's struggled to find the same rhythm from the first two sets, and Marist capitalized to finish the sweep with a 25–18 victory.
