LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Peter's volleyball team (5-9, 0-3 MAAC) fell to Rider (5-8, 3-0 MAAC) in straight sets (17-25, 17-25, 19-25) Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
With hopes of picking up their first conference win of the season, the Peacocks struggled against the MAAC-leading Broncs, recording just 21 kills compared to Rider's 43.
For Saint Peter's,
Jaizahir Marrero George,
Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez and
Addison Baglio each recorded four blocks on the day.
Indira T. Benitez Dumeng also had three blocks.
The Peacocks' offensive attack will look to improve ahead of the home conference opener against Fairfield on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE: Rider jumped out to a lead early and kept pressure on Saint Peter's, forcing the Peacocks to play from behind much of the way. Saint Peter's attempted to claw back with blocks and a few kills, but Rider sustained momentum and consistency across rotations. The Broncs closed out the set with a 25–17 win.
SET TWO: The second set followed a similar path as Rider stayed dialed in and Saint Peter's struggled to find offensive rhythm or limit errors. Though the Peacocks had spurts of points, Rider's side-out game and fewer mistakes allowed them to maintain a comfortable cushion. Rider took set two, 25–17.
SET THREE: In the third set, Saint Peter's was more aggressive early, even putting up a few kills at the net, but Rider responded with strong attacking plays. The momentum tilted toward Rider as the set progressed, and the Peacocks were unable to keep up. Rider sealed the sweep with a 25–19 victory.
