Peacocks Head to Mount St. Mary’s for First MAAC Road Test

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team hits the road for its second MAAC matchup of the season, traveling to Emmitsburg, Md., to face Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, September 13, at Waldron Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Peacocks (4-1-2, 1-0 MAAC) are coming off their first conference opening win since 2019 and first victory over Niagara since 2009. In the 5-4 thriller, junior midfielder Joana Dias powered the offense with a season high two goals and an assist, while Julia Pinho Magno also added a pair of goals. The Peacocks' defense has held opponents to a 1.29 goals per game average, while the offense averages 2.00 goals per game. Bergljot Kristinsdottir currently sits with a 0.763 save percentage.

Dias' standout performance also earned her an honorable mention spot on  ​​Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week.

ABOUT THE MOUNT
Mount St. Mary's (2-4, 0-1) opened the season with three straight losses before bouncing back with wins over Shepherd (2-1) and Delaware State (4-2). However, The Mount dropped its first conference matchup 5-1 to Merrimack.

Offensively, Mount St. Mary's has a 1.5 goals per game average, with junior Cassidy Nichols leading the charge with three goals and two assists. Defensively, The Mount has struggled, conceding 23 goals through six matches, a 3.83 per game. Their goalkeepers have a combined .574 save percentage.

Mount St. Mary's is led by first-year head coach Liis Abbott. 

AROUND THE MAAC
Fairfield had a bye in the first week of action and opens up their conference play hosting Iona on Saturday. Saint Peter's sits at the top of the standings after a hard fought 5-4 win over Niagara. Below them is Sacred Heart, who secured a 1-0 victory against Siena, and Merrimack is in the three hole, with a 5-1 victory over The Mount. Quinnipiac is fourth after a 2-1 win against Rider, and Canisius is fifth following their 2-1 victory over Manhattan. Iona and Marist split week one with a 1-1 tie.
