JERSEY CITY, N.J.– The Saint Peter's women's soccer team opens a two-match week by hosting St. Bonaventure at Jaroschak Field on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET. It will mark just the fourth meeting between the programs and the first in over two decades.
Although the Peacocks (2-1-1) have already hosted a contest this season, inclement weather has delayed them from taking the field at their home turf. Thursday's match will serve as their long-awaited debut at Jaroschak Field.
Saint Peter's enters the week on a roll, scoring six goals across back-to-back wins while conceding just once. Against Temple,
Julia Pinho Magno broke through in the 30th minute with a strike from outside the 18-yard box, and minutes later,
Rebecca Tarc scored to double the lead.
Alex De Barros sealed the 3-1 win with an early second-half goal.
The momentum carried into the LIU match, where goalkeeper
Bergljot Kristinsdottir recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves. Two of Saint Peter's goals came from set pieces off the boot of
Stella Accetola. In the first half, she served a corner into the six-yard box that
Wilma Thodhlana converted, and in the second, another corner led to a sequence finished by
Tuva Norell.
Mayla McLean put the match out of reach, firing a shot in the 75th minute.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies (0-2-1) tied their season opener before dropping back-to-back matches. They played Charleston Southern to a 1-1 draw, then fell to Binghamton (2-1) and Youngstown State (3-0). Both Bonnies' goals this season have come from set pieces–a penalty kick by Giovanna Coghetto and a free kick strike from Paula Sanabria Diaz.
St. Bonaventure is led by first-year head coach Melissa Sherwood.
Saint Peter's will then travel to Syracuse, N.Y., on Sunday, to face Le Moyne, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. ET.
ABOUT THE DOLPHINS
Le Moyne enters the week trying to snap a four-game losing streak. They have not scored since their season opener, when Ella Lathrop found the back of the net, and have conceded six goals across that stretch. Le Moyne fell to Rhode Island (2-1), Iona (1-0), Niagara (2-0), and Temple (1-0). The Dolphins are set to play Siena on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Le Moyne is led by head coach Jaro Zawislan, now in his second season.
