JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team officially opens up the 2025 season with the first two matches of the year this week. The season begins with a matchup against Drexel on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. ET, before heading to Loyola on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Peacocks begin their journey under the lights in Philadelphia, Pa, at Vidas Field, where they'll meet the Drexel Dragons for the first time in program history. Last season, Saint Peter's finished 4-11-2 while Drexel went 4-9-4, setting the stage for what could be an evenly matched opener. The Peacocks averaged 1.29 goals per game in 2024 compared to Drexel's 1.00, while the Dragons held a defensive edge, allowing just 1.53 goals per game to Saint Peter's 1.82. Offensively, Saint Peter's created 12.5 shots per game to Drexel's 10.9.
Three days later, the Peacocks will travel to Baltimore, Md, to face the Loyola Greyhounds for the first time in over a decade at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds are coming off an 8-6-5 season that included a run to the Patriot League Semifinals, where they fell, 0-4, to Bucknell. Loyola returns standout senior defender Zoe Willis, a Preseason All-Patriot League selection and 2024 First Team honoree. The Greyhounds averaged 1.37 goals per game last season while limiting opponents to just 1.05, outshooting competition by nearly one attempt per game.
Saint Peter's returns several key contributors from last year's squad. Junior
Joana Dias, the team's leading goal scorer in 2024, found the net five times and also earned MAAC All-Academic Team and CSC Academic All-District honors.
Senior
Gianna Grassifulli is expected to make an impact after appearing in just five games last season, where she still managed to score three goals — tied for the second-most on the team.
This year's captains are junior
Wilma Thodhlana and senior
Felicia Wallin, who will look to guide the Peacocks through the 2025 season.
Kickoff for both matches will be at 6 p.m. ET. Thursday's meeting will be streamed on
