Peacocks Rack Up Personal Bests at Morgan Legacy Meet

BALTIMORE, MD – The Saint Peter's track and field team competed over two days at the Morgan Legacy Meet, held at Hughes Stadium and hosted by Morgan State University this past Friday and Saturday.

DAY ONE

Three Peacocks opened the weekend in two field events. Kennedy Vaughn and Ciara Brown kicked things off in the shot put. Vaughn finished fourth overall in the nine-athlete field with a throw of 11.53m. Howard's Temi Banwa won the event with a mark of 14.69m, followed by Morgan State's Brylan Carter (13.60m, 2nd) and Towson's MaKayla Pritchett (12.90m, 3rd). Brown placed seventh with her final attempt landing at 11.16m.

Derek Garcia wrapped up day one for Saint Peter's in the javelin, smashing his old personal best by over 8 meters with a new mark of 31.26m. Coppin State's Alexander Dobson-Honablue won the event with a throw of 45.37m.

DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS

The men's 400m hurdles opened day two with heat—eight of the top ten finishers posted new personal bests, including Connor Ziolkowski, who clocked in at 54.84 to finish third overall. UMBC's Justin Febles narrowly edged him out at 54.60, while Coppin State's Jarrett Gentles won the event with a dominant 51.10.

Both Adebusuyi Shittu and Derek Garcia hit new personal bests in the shot put. Shittu threw 12.25m—32 centimeters farther than his previous mark—and Garcia broke into double digits for the first time, finishing with a throw of 10.22m.

In the women's 1500m, Shirleysa Rivas trimmed .04 seconds off her previous PR, finishing in 5:32.45.

The men's 1500m saw a full sweep of personal bests for the Peacocks. Gerardo Quaglia led the group with a time of 4:09.93. He was followed by Solomon Dunham (4:28.87), Brendan Heaney (4:30.37), and Nicholas Michael (4:34.42).

Another round of strong performances came in the men's 800m, where four Peacocks notched season-best times. Michael Amaker led with a new personal best of 1:56.39, followed closely by Elijah Kiboma at 1:57.17. Ajani Peck-Wekunda posted a new PR at 2:03.36, and Solomon Dunham rounded out the group with a season best of 2:05.16.

UP NEXT

Part of the squad will gear up for the 129th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Friday, April 25. The rest of the team will head to the TCNJ Invitational in Ewing, NJ, and the C&J Covert Classic at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, both set for April 25–26.
