Saint Peter’s Drops Series To Rider To Open Up Conference Play

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After falling to Rider in the first two games of the series, the Saint Peter's baseball team was defeated once more by a score of 17-10 on Sunday at Jaroschak Field in its first action of conference play.

The Peacocks (4-11) started the game hot, erupting for seven runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Tyler Cotten was hit by a pitch that sent Tommy Kendrick to home plate. Ethan Starks was then up to bat for Saint Peter's and he hit a home run for a grand slam. Next, Jack Fitzharris doubled to left field that scored Tyler Smith and put Alex Manent in scoring position. Kendrick closed out the inning with a sacrifice fly as the Peacocks led 7-0 going into the top of the second.

The Broncs (8-3) then rattled off five runs between the second and third innings before ultimately taking their first lead of the game, 8-7, in the fourth with three more runs off of two homers. Saint Peter's wasted no time regaining the lead as Ashby Vining singled up the middle to bring two runners home for a 9-8 advantage.

In the seventh inning is when things started to unravel for the Peacocks. They let up two more home runs that allowed Rider to put up six runs in the inning. The Broncs then scored three more runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of Saint Peter's reach.

Garrett Greco led the team with three hits in his four at bats. Ethan Starks led the team with four RBIs due to his grand slam in the first inning.

The Peacocks travel to Sacred Heart for their first series of road conference games next weekend. The first game will be Friday, Mar. 14th at 3 p.m. ET.
