Gooden and Zubair Advance to 60m Final at ECAC/IC4A Championships

BOSTON, MA – Five members of the men's track and field team represented Saint Peter's at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Graduate student Delano Gooden and freshman Ameen Zubair are both in pursuit of gold in the 60m.

At 1:35 p.m., freshman Ajani Peck-Wekunda and sophomore Connor Ziolkowski competed in the men's 500m prelims. The top ten times advanced to the finals, set for tomorrow at 12:05 p.m. Peck-Wekunda finished 14th overall, clocking in at 1:05.69—just .37 seconds shy of the final qualifying spot—while also setting a new personal best. Ziolkowski finished right behind him in 15th with a time of 1:06.84. Rider's Dallas Hohney secured the top seed heading into the final with a time of 1:02.91.

Hensley Jean Baptiste competed in the 400m but was disqualified due to a lane violation.

Gooden and Zubair opened the day for Saint Peter's in the 60m preliminaries at 11:15 a.m. The top two from each heat, along with the next ten fastest times, advanced to the semifinals. Zubair finished second in his heat (H2) with a time of 7.011, trailing Manhattan's Darion Lopez (6.916). The third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers from the heat also secured semifinal spots. Gooden placed third in his heat (H3) with a time of 6.92, earning the seventh-fastest time overall. FDU's Xavier Hayletts led the way into the semifinals with a personal best of 6.89, while Vermont's Alex Siaton finished second and claimed the fourth overall spot.

An hour and a half later, the semifinals were underway. The top two from each heat, plus the next five fastest times, moved on to the finals. Gooden and Zubair raced head-to-head in heat two, with Gooden placing third in 6.876, securing the fifth overall spot in the final. Zubair finished fifth in the heat with a time of 6.98, claiming the ninth and final qualifying position. Manhattan's Lopez won the heat with a personal best of 6.84, while LIU's Sage Primus also hit a PR (6.873) to take second. Vermont's Siaton recorded the fastest overall semifinal time, setting a personal best of 6.81.

The 60m final is set for tomorrow at 11:20 a.m. Zubair will race in lane 1, and Gooden in lane 3. The full lane assignments are as follows: Coppin State's Cole Schlotterbeck (2), LIU's Primus (4), Vermont's Siaton (5), Manhattan's Lopez (6), FDU's Hayletts (7), Binghamton's Marcus Nahim (8), and Mount St. Mary's Abdoulaye Bah (9).
