NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's baseball team fell, 4-14, to Niagara on Saturday at Bobo Field as the Purple Eagles secured the series sweep over the Peacocks.
The Peacocks (7-19, 3-9 MAAC) gave up 11 of the 14 runs in the third and sixth innings, putting the Purple Eagles (8-15, 4-5 MAAC) out of reach.
Despite the loss,
Tyler Smith recorded his 100th career-hit with a two-run home run to right field in the top of the fourth inning. Saint Peter's had six players each notch a single hit while Smith led the team with two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks scored first with a home run by
Alex Rakas in the second inning. The Purple Eagles then stormed back in the third with six runs.
Smith hit a two-run homer to cut the Saint Peter's deficit to just three at 3-6. Niagara responded well, scoring seven unanswered runs over the next two innings.
In the top of the seventh, the Peacocks earned one more run after
Garrett Greco singled through the right side to bring
Logan Baker home. Saint Peter's then gave up a run in the bottom of the inning as the Purple Eagles won 14-4.
