STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Saint Peter's track and field team participated in the Big Apple Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday. The highlight of the day was junior Michael Amaker, who delivered a dominant performance in his track and field debut, winning the men's 1000m with a time of 2:38.39—nearly 18 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Women's Events
In the women's 400m dash, freshman Shania McDuffie secured a top-10 finish, placing seventh overall with a time of 1:00.87. Freshman Ryana Dennis from St. John's won the event out of 29 competitors, clocking in at 58.17. Freshmen Adriana Rollins (1:04.31), Samyah Wilson (1:05.67), and junior Shannelle Vilson (1:09.14) rounded out the event for the Peacocks.
In the 200m dash, McDuffie once again led the Peacocks, finishing 15th out of 56 athletes with a time of 26.24. Zrrayah Moore from Shore Athletic Club took first place, running the only sub-25 time in the field (24.99). Wilson (26.59), Vilson (27.70), senior Balikis Iyiola (28.28), and graduate student Mikell Dolo (28.74) also competed for Saint Peter's.
In the women's weight throw, junior Kennedy Vaughn placed ninth overall with a mark of 12.77m. Sacred Heart's Suzan Adekunle won the event out of 27 competitors with a 16.89m throw, the only competitor to surpass 16 meters. Freshman Alyana Meador recorded a throw of 8.82m in the event.
Men's Events
In the men's 60m dash, Alex Siaton from Vermont secured first place with a time of 6.93. Freshman Dylan Williams was the top finisher for Saint Peter's, placing fifth with a time of 7.05, alongside fellow freshman Ameen Zubair, who also clocked 7.05 to finish sixth. Junior Amari Campbell completed the event with a time of 7.48.
In the men's one mile, senior Gerardo Quaglia finished 13th with a time of 4:35.44. Matthew Mullen of Cortland State claimed first out of 35 runners, posting a time of 4:18.84. Senior Brendan Heaney finished in 4:54.84, while freshman Solomon Dunham rounded out the event for the Peacocks with a time of 4:58.56.
Siaton from Vermont also won the men's 400m dash, clocking 49.84 out of 51 competitors. Freshman Ajani Peck-Wekunda secured a top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 51.40. Fellow freshman Adeiza Albert finished in 53.86.
Sacred Heart's Lance Hayes took first in the men's 800m, clocking 1:55.81 out of 31 competitors. Junior Elijah Kiboma placed sixth for Saint Peter's with a time of 1:57.68, while freshman Solomon Dunham finished in 2:05.13.
In the men's 200m dash, Salisbury's Kai Smith posted the fastest time, winning in 21.82 out of 58 athletes. Williams was the top Peacock finisher, placing eighth with a time of 22.86. Sophomore Temiloluwa Adesetan (23.37), graduate student Judeson Mirac (23.37), and freshman Tamir Burney-Laberth (26.07) also competed.
Saint Peter's 4x400m relay team—featuring senior Hensley Jean Baptiste, junior Malique Jackson, Amaker, and Kiboma—secured a second-place finish with a time of 3:24.32. Salisbury claimed first, crossing the line in 3:19.46.
In the men's shot put, sophomore Adebusuyi Shittu placed 15th out of 35 competitors with a throw of 11.93m. Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez from St. Thomas Aquinas took first place with a mark of 15.47m. Senior Derek Garcia (9.38m) and Michael Costa (9.26m) also represented Saint Peter's in the event.
