Peacocks Battle Hard but Fall to Quinnipiac

JERSEY CITY, NJ -  Saint Peter's women's basketball fell short to Quinnipiac on Thursday evening by a score of 74-65.

The Peacocks had three players scoring in double figures. Fatmata Janneh led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds, securing her 15th double-double of the season. Laila Grant contributed 10 points, while Louella Allana added 12 to round out the scoring effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Fatmata Janneh ignited the Peacocks' offense early, drilling back-to-back three-pointers to set the tone. She kept the momentum going with a strong drive to the rim for a layup, while junior Louella Allana added to the hot start with a three of her own. Freshman De'Naya Rippey showcased her quickness with an aggressive drive to the basket, and fellow freshman Linda Amaning kept the energy high with a smooth jumper. Despite their offensive push, the Peacocks trailed at the end of the first quarter, 22-18, with the Bobcats holding the edge.

Coming out of the first-quarter break, Linda Amaning got the Peacocks rolling with a smooth jumper, while graduate guard Maya Hyacienth stepped up and buried a three-pointer. The Peacocks stayed hot from beyond the arc, with Louella Allana and Hyacienth adding to the scoring effort. Despite their strong shooting, the Bobcats held onto the lead at halftime, 41-33.

After halftime, Fatmata Janneh continued to shine, attacking the rim with another strong drive. Graduate guard Laila Grant found her rhythm from deep, sinking back-to-back three-pointers to keep the Peacocks in the fight. Linda Amaning powered her way to the basket, while Janneh remained a force in the paint. Grant added a smooth jumper, but despite their efforts, the Peacocks couldn't close the gap. By the break, Quinnipiac maintained control with a 61-50 lead.

In the Peacocks' final push, Louella Allana stayed locked in from beyond the arc, while Amaning attacked the rim with a strong drive. Hyacienth drained a clutch three-pointer, and Allana followed up with another deep shot to keep the momentum alive. Janneh knocked down a quick turnaround jumper, but despite the Peacocks' strong finish, they couldn't close the gap.
