Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's women's basketball fell short to Marist on Saturday afternoon by a score of 63-61.
The Peacocks had two players scoring in double figures. Fatmata Janneh led the way with 28 points and 15 rebounds, securing her 16th double-double of the season. Laila Grant contributed 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks started strong with a three-pointer from graduate guard Laila Grant. Redshirt sophomore Nikola Zdenkova added to their momentum from beyond the arc, while freshman Linda Amaning drove to the basket. Junior guard Louella Allana contributed with a layup, but it wasn't enough to close the gap against the Red Foxes. By the end of the first quarter, Marist led 20-10.
Coming out of the first-quarter break, sophomore Fatmata Janneh attacked the rim and capitalized on second-chance opportunities in the paint. Grant stayed locked in from beyond the arc, draining three consecutive three-pointers. Janneh continued her strong play, driving to the basket and sinking a three-pointer of her own. Freshman De'Naya Rippey added to the momentum with a strong drive, tying the game at 36-36 heading into halftime.
After halftime, Linda Amaning remained active in the paint, driving to the basket, while Fatmata Janneh knocked down back-to-back jumpers. Louella Allana added a mid-range jumper, but the Red Foxes held onto their lead. At the end of the third quarter, Marist remained in front, 48-46.
In the Peacocks' final stretch, Allana kept the momentum going from beyond the arc, sinking another three-pointer. Amaning attacked the basket, while Janneh continued to make an impact for the team. Fatmata Janneh drilled a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 61-61 with just 0.3 seconds remaining. However, Marist responded with a last-second layup, sealing a 63-61 victory at the buzzer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Fatmata Janneh delivered a dominant performance, playing the full 40 minutes and leading the Peacocks with 28 points. She shot 41.7% from the field (10-24) and was efficient from beyond the arc, knocking down three-of-seven three-pointers (42.9%). Janneh also capitalized at the free-throw line, sinking five-of-six attempts (83.3%). Beyond her scoring, she made a major impact on the boards, securing a double-double with 15 rebounds—three offensive and 12 defensive.
Laila Grant played a crucial role for the Peacocks, logging 39 minutes on the court while tacking on 12 points. She was a key contributor from beyond the arc, knocking down four-of-10 three-pointers at a solid 40.0% clip. Overall, she shot four-of-12 from the field (33.3%).
