New Career High For Rippey As Peacocks Fall To Leopards

EASTON, P.A- The Saint Peter's women's basketball team defeated in a highly competitive matchup against Lafayette on Thursday, 76-58 at the Kirby Sports Center, in Easton, P.A. In the matchup, De'Naya Rippey would show out for the Peacocks, posting her second consecutive double double, and a new career high of 23 points. Laila Grant and Layla Laws would also have solid performances, both putting up 10 points each. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST QUARTER: Grant would get the scoring started for the Peacocks on a second chance layup before Rippey would add three more with a deep triple. Grant would answer with a three of her own to make the score 8-5 halfway through the first. Laws would score her first basket of the night on a drive and finish at the rim. At the media timeout, the Peacocks led 10-7 over the Leopards. After a couple of jumpers by the Leopards, the Peacocks would score on a no-look dime from Rippey to Carys Roy. To end the first the Peacocks went on a 6-0 run with two triples from Louella Allana and Grant, Peacocks would lead 18-17 after one. 

SECOND QUARTER: Rippey would get the second started with a tough layup basket. Laws would add to the scoring for the Peacocks with a 3-pointer. Despite the strong scoring the Leopards would keep fighting back leading 26-23 halfway through the quarter. Going into the media timeout, the Peacocks found themselves down 25-26 with Rippey scoring on a second chance opportunity to make it a one point game. Coming out of the timeout, Rippey would cash in on a foul line jumper and add more with a pair of free throws. However, the Leopards would just keep scoring from downtown, going 3-5 from beyond the arc compared to the Peacocks 1-9. The score at the half would see the Peacocks down 29-40. 

THIRD QUARTER: To start the second half, it was Rippey setting the tone with a steal and a fast break finish down low to get the first points for the Peacocks. Rippey would keep adding to her scoring mark by knocking down a tough layup while getting fouled in the process. After a pair of triples from the Leopards, the Peacocks would find themselves down 33-48 early in the third. Coming out of a timeout, it was once again Rippey keeping the scoring coming for the Peacocks with another foul line jumper, followed up by an Allana 3-pointer. After a Laws free throw, the Peacocks would enter the media timeout down 39-50. Coming out of the timeout, the Peacocks would make it a single digit game thanks to the scoring from Rippey and Laws in the low post. With the clock winding down, Grant would score on a second chance bucket with time expiring to end the third for the Peacocks 44-53. 

FOURTH QUARTER: The Peacocks started the fourth with a downtown triple from Rippey, Nikola Zdenkova would add another three for the Peacocks as well, making the score 50-60 after a couple of baskets from the Leopards. Coming out of a timeout, Rippey would once again cash in with a foul line jumper, cementing a new career high for points in a game. Halfway through the fourth, the Peacocks would find themselves down 54-67 thanks to steady shooting from the Leopards. Jayshlynn Vega would provide a mid range score for the Peacocks late in the fourth. Jada Mills would also add a bucket, converting on a tough mid range jumper, being fouled in the process. In the end, the Leopards strong shooting from the floor, propelled them to a 76-58 victory. 

UP NEXT: The Peacocks will finish up their four game road streak to open the season at NJIT on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m ET.
