Peacocks Look to Regroup as October Slate Continues Against Manhattan and Fairfield

JERSEY CITY, NJ– The Saint Peter's women's soccer team looks to rebound and snap a two-match skid as it opens a two-game week. The Peacocks begin on the road at Manhattan on Wednesday, October 8, before returning home to host Fairfield on Saturday, October 11. Saint Peter's meets the Jaspers at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, at 3 p.m. and then face the Stags at Jaroschak Field at noon.

Saint Peter's last week had a tough one, the Peacocks were outshot 44-17 and conceded nine goals across two matches. Joana Dias provided the team's lone tally, converting a penalty kick against Quinnipiac — her fourth goal of the year and second most on the team.

Despite the results, the Peacocks showed promise in both outings. Against Iona, Heidi Miles broke free for a one-on-one with the keeper, but a phenomenal split save denied her chance. Then early in the second half, Mayla McLean turned on her defender for a low strike, only for the Iona goalkeeper to make another key stop.

At Quinnipiac, McLean again found space late in the match, firing two quick shots, though the Bobcats' keeper turned both away.

In net, Bergljot Kristinsdottir continues to anchor the defense, ranking eighth in the MAAC in goals-against average (1.97) and save percentage (.709), and fourth in saves per game (4.67). Julia Pinho Magno stands eighth in the league in shots (29, 2.64 per game) and 10th in goals (5).

ABOUT THE JASPERS
Manhattan (4-4-4, 3-3) wrapped up September with a 2-2 mark, including shutout wins over Iona and Mount St. Mary's (2-0) the week of September 22. The Jaspers are coming off a split week–first falling 3-2 to Niagara before bouncing back with a 1-0 victory over Siena.

Pacing the Jaspers is redshirt junior Amaya Hill, who currently has two goals and seven assists–tied for first in the conference. Hill is also seventh in the MAAC for shots on goal with 1.42 per game. Junior Olivia McAllister ranks fourth in the conference in shots (28, 3.11 per game), while Mayah Wheeler is eighth in assists (3). In goal, Molly Brunk owns a 1.39 goals-against average, .737 save percentage, and 3.5 saves per game — marks that rank fourth, sixth, and ninth in the league.

16th-year head coach Brendan Lawler leads the Jaspers.

ABOUT THE STAGS
Fairfield (9-1-2, 4-0-2) closed out September with a 4-0-2 record. The Stags have outscored opponents 10-3 during that span and have conceded just eight goals all season — a stingy 0.67 goals-against average.

The Stags are led by senior Maddy Theriault, who has seven goals and two assists. Despite not recording a tally since August, Theriault currently ranks first in the MAAC in shots (52, 4.33) and shots on goal (26, 2.17) and is also second in both goals (7) and points (18).

Sophomore Ashley McMahon adds support to the attack, ranking 10th in shots (28), eighth in goals (5), and ninth in assists (3) and points (13). Fairfield also has four of the MAAC's top 10 playmakers in assists: Ashlyn Walsh (1st, 7), Kelly O'Connor (4th, 5), Payton Zaun (6th, 4), and McMahon (9th, 3).

The MAAC's reigning head coach of the year, in his 25th season, is David Barrett.

ALL TIME RECORDS
Saint Peter's is 3-25-1 against Manhattan, including 2-11 at home. The Jaspers have won the last two of three matchups (1-0, 2-1, 2-2). Dias scored the lone goal in the 2-1 loss in 2023, while the 2022 tie is the first in program history for the Peacocks under head coach Julia Bazi.

Against Fairfield, the Peacocks are 0-31-2, with their most recent draw coming in 2016—a hard-fought 1-1 result.

AROUND THE MAAC
Quinnipiac (4-3-4, 4-0-3) moves into first after a draw to Siena (5-4-5, 2-3-2) and a commanding 5-1 win over Saint Peter's, who sits 11th overall. Sacred Heart (6-5-1, 5-2) jumps into second, riding a three-match win streak, followed by Fairfield (third) and Marist (4-5-3, 3-0-3, fourth) after their head-to-head draw. Canisius (4-6, 4-2) sits fifth after back-to-back losses, with Manhattan rounding out the top six.
