JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's sophomore
Shirleysa Rivas has been named the Jersey Mike's MAAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Rivas is the first Saint Peter's cross country runner this season to earn a MAAC weekly honor.
Rivas paced the Peacocks through a two-race week, turning in strong performances at both the Peacock Invite and the Metropolitan Championships. She opened the week with a standout showing at Jaroschak Field, finishing second overall in the 2.1km with a time of 9:42, the lone Peacock in the top five.
The North Bergen, N.J. native followed with another impressive effort at the Metropolitan Championships in Newark, clocking 19:51.0 for a 49th-place finish and shaving two minutes off her time from last year's event.
Saint Peter's will return to action this Friday, October 17, at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
