Peacocks Defeated By The Golden Griffins, Saint Peter's Had Three Lead Scores That All Came From Double-Digits

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell short to the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday afternoon by a score of 56-48. The Peacocks had three scorers this afternoon in double-digits. Sophomore guard Jada Leonard led the way with 16 points, senior guard Rachel Kuhl added 12 points off the bench, and graduate student Mikia Keith tacked on 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Keith opened the scoring for the Peacocks with a driving layup. She finished 3-of-5 from the floor and shot 66.7% from beyond the three point arc.

During the first quarter, freshman Fatmata Janneh gave the Peacocks back-to-back jumpers to pull Saint Peter's even at 13. Kuhl then followed with a shot from beyond the three-point arc. Leonard drained a late free throw to put the Peacocks in front 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Leonard got the Peacocks rolling at the start of the second quarter with a three point basket. Towards the end of the second, Keith connected on back-to-back triples, while Kuhl knocked in a three-pointer to push Saint Peter's lead to 26-21 with four minutes to play in the half. Canisius closed with a late run but trailed the Peacocks 26-25 at halftime.

The Golden Griffins rallied in the third quarter to pull ahead and held off a Peacock comeback in the final quarter.

Janneh led the team in rebounding, grabbing a total of eight rebounds. Leonard led the team in steals with a total of four. The Peacocks had a total of 25 rebounds and nine steals.
