Women's Basketball Defeated By Quinnipiac

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell to Quinnipiac 46-40 on Thursday night at Run Baby Run Arena. Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh tacked a total of 11 points, nine rebounds, leading the squad offensively and on defense.

HOW IT HAPPENED

During the first quarter, Janneh shot beyond the three-point arc putting the Peacocks on the board early. Freshman center Carys Roy followed up with a layup giving Saint Peter's an early lead. At the end of the first quarter the score was 9-5 in favor of the Peacocks. 

Janneh kept the Peacocks rolling at the start of the second quarter with back-to-back layups. Towards the end of the first half, graduate student Mikia Keith shot a three-pointer that pushed Saint Peter's into the lead at 16-14 with two minutes to play in the half. Quinnipiac rallied late in the half and the score was tied at 17 at halftime. 

After halftime, Roy started the Peacocks off with a driving layup. She shot 66.7% from the floor for the game. Sophomore guard Reilly Sunday had a driving layup tying the score 21-21 midway through the third quarter. Following that, graduate student Maya Hyacienth contributed two points to the Peacocks that gave the squad back the lead. 

Saint Peter's got as close as five points in the fourth quarter but the Bobcats held off a Peacock comeback down the stretch. 

Janneh led the team in rebounding, grabbing a total of nine rebounds. The Peacocks had a total of 27 rebounds and seven steals. 

NEXT UP

Next up, the Peacocks travel to Connecticut on Saturday, February 10th where the squad takes on Fairfield. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
