Women's Basketball Defeated By Siena Saturday Afternoon

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell to Siena 75-57  on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Jada Leonard contributed 24 points to the squad, while Freshman center Carys Roy. This was the Peacocks autism awareness and alumni game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh got the Peacocks rolling early in the first quarter by scoring in the paint. Sophomore guard Jada Leonard had a trio of lay-ups, while Janneh followed up with a jumper. Leonard finished the first quarter with a total of 10 points. 

At the start of the second quarter, Leonard scored in the paint. Freshman center Carys Roy connected two back-to-back lay-ups, while Leonard followed up with a fast break lay-up. Leonard took a step back and shot from downtown. The Saints took the lead 37-31 heading into halftime. 

Saint Peter's kicked off the second half with graduate forward Maria Fux connecting two lay-ups. Sophomore guard Reilly Sunday shot beyond the three-point arc, while Janneh followed up with a lay-up. 

Senior guard Rachel Kuhl shot from downtown, contributing three more points for the squad. Roy finished the third quarter with 10 points. The Saints took the lead 60-45 entering the final quarter.

During the final quarter, Kuhl had a floating jumpshot, and she then followed up with a three-point bucket. Leonard led the squad with 24 points and six rebounds while shooting 73% from the floor. The Saints extended their lead but held off a Peacock rally down the stretch. 

NEXT UP

Next up, the Peacocks are set to travel to Poughkeepsie, New York, where the squad takes on Marist, Saturday, March 2nd. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
