JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell to Iona 54-35 on Saturday afternoon. This was the Peacocks Play4Kay game to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
HOW IT HAPPENED
During the first quarter, sophomore guard Reilly Sunday opened up the floor with a jumper, while sophomore guard Jada Leonard scored in the paint.
To begin the second quarter, senior guard Rachel Kuhl shot from downtown. Graduate guard Mikia Keith added a triple to the board. Graduate forward Maria Fux took a step back and shot beyond the three-point arc, while following up with a fast break lay-up. The Gaels took the lead 22-17 at the end of the half.
Saint Peter's started off the second half with Keith a trifecta, while Leonard and Kuhl had back-to-back driving lay-ups. Sunday connected on two free throws and Keith ended the third quarter with a steal to stop the Gaels offense. The Gaels took the lead 40-26 entering into the final quarter.
At the start of the final quarter, freshman center Carys Roy had a jumper and followed up by connecting on two free throws. Fux had a turn around adding two more on the board for the Peacocks. Fux led the way with nine points and five rebounds while shooting 4-of-5 from the floor. The Gaels extended their lead but held off a Peacock rally down the stretch.

Next up, the Peacocks are set to travel to Lawrenceville where the squad takes on Rider on Thursday, February 22nd. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
