Peacocks Battle Back But Falls Short To Canisius

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team fell Thursday night to Canisius by a score of 59-44. The Peacocks had two scorers tonight that came in double figures, senior guard Rachel Kuhl and sophomore guard Jada Leonard had a total of 12 points each.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore guard Jada Leonard started the Peacocks off Thursday evening with a fast break which led to a layup. During the first quarter, freshman forward Fatmata Janneh contributed a layup assisted by senior guard Rachel Kuhl. Kuhl hit a 3-point goal assisted by Sophomore guard Reilly Sunday leaving the score 21-12 after the first quarter.

As the game approached the half, the score was 43-22. After halftime, the Peacocks began to battle back. Graduate Student Mikia Keith had a total of 4 points in a minute and ten seconds, spearheaded by her effectiveness from three-point range.

In the third quarter, Janneh showed her effectiveness from beyond the three point arc and Kuhl showcased her prowess on the court by sinking two back to back three point goals. At the end of the third quarter, the Peacocks had cut the deficit to ten.

Leonard started off the fourth with a 3-point goal. Additionally, freshman Carys Roy contributed to the team's score by executing a layup in the paint. Ultimately, the Peacocks fell short.

Kuhl shot 3-of-5 in 3-pointers and Leonard went 2-of-5. The squad had a total of 22 rebounds. The Peacocks shot the ball well with a field goal percentage of 53.3%.

 

NEXT UP

The Peacocks travel to the Bronx where the squad takes on Manhattan. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, January 13th. You can catch the game on ESPN+.
