PROVIDENCE, RI. - The Saint Peter's University volleyball team began its weekend at the 18th annual Friar Classic on Friday. The Peacocks (0-8) fell in three sets to Providence (3-4.)
Match Notes:
- Providence had 23 more points than the Peacocks and twice as many kills. Additionally, the Friars connected on eight service aces compared to the Peacocks one.
- At the net, SPU had five blocks (two more than Providence.)
- Morgan Thurlow led the Peacocks in points with 7.5 and kills with six.
- SPU freshman Evin Jordee made her first career start for the Peacocks and passed a team-high seven assists.
- Friars led the first set 6-2 before the Peacocks went on a 4-0 run and tied the set at 6-6. Friars outscored the Peacocks 19-7 for the remainder of the set and closed it out.
- Providence won the second set 25-16. The Friars led the whole duration of the second set.
- In the third set the Peacocks won three consecutive points and trailed 18-10. The Friars answered with a 4-0 run of their own and closed out the match.
The Peacocks will be back in action for the conclusion of the Friar Classic. On Saturday Sep. 9, Saint Peter's University faces Bryant at 11 and Central Connecticut State at 3:30.
