Volleyball Competes In Home Opener

JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's volleyball team competed against the Marist (6-10) in its home opener. The Peacocks (0-16) fell to the Red Foxes three sets to none Saturday at the Yanitelli Center. 

Mackenzie Tucker led the Peacocks with 12 points on 10 kills. SPU freshman Evin Jordee distributed a team-high 15 assists. Additionally, SPU freshman Crystal Nguyen converted a team-high two service aces along with 10 digs. Lilly Konrad recorded a .1000 hit %. 

Match Notes: 

  • The opening set came down to the wire as the Peacocks and Red Foxes exchanged runs. The Peacocks jumped out to a 10-8 lead and then went on a 3-0 run that featured two kills from Tucker and a service ace from Nguyen. The Peacocks were up 13-8 before the Red Foxes responded and took six of the next eight points. The set was tied at 22 before the Red Foxes capitalized on a Peacocks error and won the set 25-23. SPU recorded 3 service aces and four blocks in the opening set. 
  • The Peacocks dropped the second set 25-22. The Red Foxes had a higher hit % in the second set with .394% and committed less errors than the Peacocks.

  • Marist won the third set 25-19. At the net, the Peacocks had five more blocks than Marist in the final set. The third set was tied at 18 before Marist closed it out with a 7-1 run. 

  • The Red Foxes were led by Sasha van der Merwe who had 15 kills.


Next, the Peacocks host Siena on Sunday Oct. 1 at the Yanitelli Center. The match starts at 1PM and will be streamed on the Peacocks Digital Network.
