VESTAL, NY. - The Saint Peter's University volleyball team started its regular season at the Bearcat Classic on Friday. The Peacocks fell to the Duquesne Dukes three sets to none.
Mackenzie Tucker led the Peacocks in points with 9.5 and kills with six.
Match Notes
- In set one, the Peacocks led the Dukes 6-5 before the Dukes went on a 14-3 run. Duquesne hit .400 and had five service aces in the first set. The Dukes took set one 25-13.
- SPU battled in a hard-fought set two. Saint Peter's University started the set with a kill from Georgia Remmers and two consecutive service aces from Tucker. The Peacocks jumped out to a 12-8 lead before the Dukes responded with a 6-0 run and closed out the set 25-21.
- In the third set, the Peacocks trailed throughout a majority as the Dukes won 25-13.
Inside the Numbers
- Tucker had 9.5 points and six kills.
- Remmers contributed five points on five kills.
- SPU freshman Samantha Trujillo, Savina Trujillo, Olivia Gang, Crystal Nguyen, and Ryan Shelton all made their first appearances for the Peacocks.
- Duquesne scored 56 points compared to SPU's 31. The Dukes had 24 more kills and 23 more assists than the Peacocks.
- Both teams had four blocks each.
