Jersey City, N.J.- The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team opens the 2023 season against the LIU Sharks on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m.
The Peacocks are looking to build off a 4-13-1 record in 2022. Last season, Saint Peter's ended its season with a 2-2 draw on the road at Manhattan on Oct. 26, 2022. It was the first and only draw of the season. The Peacocks failed to qualify for the playoffs.
For this season, the Peacocks will look to get off to a fast start to the season with five of the first six games taking place in New Jersey. Most notably, Saint Peter's has a road matchup versus NJIT in the second game of the season on Sunday, Aug. 20 in Newark, N.J. In the non-conference schedule, the only game outside of the state of New Jersey will be at Delaware State on Thursday, Aug. 31 in Dover, Del. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule will begin on Sept. 9 and will end on Oct. 25. Saint Peter's conference schedule consists of 10 games.
The roster, which is led by fourth-year head coach
Julia Bazi, is made up of players who come from more than five different countries. It is a young team that is mostly comprised of returning sophomores. Key returning sophomores include
Alyssa Hackett, Taylor Moyer, Gabrielle Saint-Jacques, Stella Accettola, Alexa Ceci, and
Gianna Grassifulli.
The season opener will be the second consecutive season Saint Peter's and LIU are facing off. Saint Peter's dropped last season's meeting with LIU in a 1-0 road loss on Aug. 25, 2022. Thursday's kickoff will take place at the Lincoln Park Turf Field.
