Volleyball Drops Home Match To Canisius

JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's volleyball team hosted conference foe Canisius on Saturday at the Yanitelli Center. The Peacocks fell three sets to none to the Griffins (4-11). 

Mackenzie Tucker led the Peacocks in kills for the third consecutive match with nine. SPU sophomore Sydney Kuzma converted a team-high two service aces. At the net, Morgan Thurlow recorded three blocks and Lilly Konrad distributed a team-best 12 assists. 

Match Notes: 

  • In the opening set, SPU trailed 10-6 before it responded with a 5-0 run that was capped off with a service ace from Tucker and a kill from Skylee Nelson. The Peacocks led 11-10. The Griffins outscored SPU 15-6 in the opening set for a final score of 25-17. 

  • The second set was closer as SPU fell 25-19. The Peacocks were down 15-11. SPU tied the set up at 17-17 after it won three consecutive points that featured a kill from Kuzma and two consecutive kills from Tucker. The match was tied again at 18 a-piece and the Griffins took seven of the final eight points of the set. 

  • In the third and final set, Canisius jumped out to a 8-4 advantage. The Peacocks rattled off four consecutive points. Kuzma delivered back-to-back service aces and tied the third set at 9-9. Later in the set, Thurlow recorded a kill and tied the set at 16-16. Canisius won seven of the next nine points and led 23-18. The Griffins pulled out the set 25-21. 

  • Isabella Mosquera led the Griffins with 16.5 points on 14 kills. 

 

Next, Saint Peter's hosts Niagara on Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Yanitelli Center. The match begins at 1PM and will be streamed on the Peacocks Digital Network.
