JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's volleyball team competed in a five-set battle at the Yanitelli Center on Wednesday night. The Peacocks fell three sets to two to NJIT (8-12). Multiple Peacocks hit career high marks. Mackenzie Tucker notched a career-high in kills with 18 and led SPU in service aces with three. Additionally, Skylee Nelson hit a career-high 16 kills.

At the net, Morgan Thurlow had a team-high five blocks along with 15 kills. Lilly Konrad passed for a team-high 23 assists and SPU freshman Evin Jordee distributed 20 assists. Crystal Nguyen hit a team-high 17 digs.

In the opening set, the Peacocks were down 12-10 before they went on a 4-0 run that featured a kill from Nelson and a service ace from Tucker. NJIT won 15 of the next 22 points and pulled out the set 25-21.

The Peacocks responded in the second set. SPU jumped out to a 4-1 lead early. With the set later tied at 17, NJIT committed two errors which gave SPU a 19-17 lead. Saint Peter's rallied and scored seven of the last nine points, and won the second set 25-19.

A kill from Elena Bilhartz gave the Peacocks a 9-7 advantage in the third set. The Highlanders answered back with a 6-0 run and broke open the set as NJIT closed it out 25-14.

The fourth set was an epic back-and-forth battle. The Peacocks trailed 8-3 and clawed back. Later in the set, NJIT led 14-10. SPU took six of the next eight points and tied the set at 16-16. The set was tied at 16, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. NJIT led 24-23 with the match point in the balance. Tucker made two consecutive clutch kills for the Peacocks which gave SPU a 25-24 advantage. NJIT regained the lead at 27-26. Kills from Thurlow and Nelson gave the lead back to Saint Peter's at 28-27. NJIT committed an error for the final point of the fourth set as the Peacocks pulled it out 29-27.

In the fifth set, NJIT went on a 5-0 run and took a 7-4 lead. Back-to-back kills from Tucker put the Peacocks in striking distance as they were down 10-8. The Highlanders took five of the last seven points, and won the fifth set 15-10.
