POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. - The Saint Peter's volleyball team competed in a hard-fought conference match against Marist (10-10) on the road Wednesday. Saint Peter's fell to Marist three sets to two. SPU sophomore Mackenzie Tucker notched her second-career double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs. Additionally, SPU senior Skylee Nelson recorded a career-high 12 kills.
Match Notes
- SPU trailed in the opening set 12-1. The Peacocks came roaring back on a 21-9 run and took a 24-23 lead. The Red Foxes pulled out the first set 27-25.

The Peacocks led the second set 7-5 before the Red Foxes responded and won the next eight consecutive points. Marist won the second set 25-16.

Saint Peter's mounted a comeback effort in the third and fourth sets. In the third set SPU jumped out to a 10-3 advantage. The Red Foxes came back and tied the third set at 23-23. Kills from Tucker and Elena Bilhartz in consecutive points secured the third set for the Peacocks 25-23.

Saint Peter's forced a fifth set as it cruised through the fourth. With the set tied at 6-6, the Peacocks went on a 7-0 run that featured kills from Tucker, Thurlow, and a service ace from Samantha Trujillo. SPU won fourth set 25-13.

The Peacocks led a majority of the fifth set. A block by Tucker and Bilhartz gave the Peacocks a 13-10 lead before Marist closed out the match on a 5-0 run.

Both teams recorded 56 kills in the match. Saint Peter's had one more service ace, assist, and block than Marist.

SPU freshman Samantha Trujillo converted a career-high four service aces.

Two Peacocks distributed 20+ assists as Lilly Konrad passed for a team-high 23 assists and SPU freshman Evin Jordee tallied a career-high 22 assists.

Jordan Newblatt led the Red Foxes with 19 kills and 13 digs.
Next, the Peacocks travel to Connecticut for two matches this weekend. Saint Peter's faces Quinnipiac on Saturday Oct. 14 and Fairfield on Sunday, Oct. 15.
