How It Happened

  • The Peacocks struck first in the top of the third inning, as senior outfielder Anthony Abbatine, who reached base on a double, was able to score on a wild pitch.
  • Hofstra scored runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Stuck in a jam in the bottom of the sixth inning, junior pitcher Nick Markanatonatos was able to get out of it, stranding the bases loaded to keep the score close.
  • The Pride hit a three run home run off of senior pitcher Michael Bonaccorso in the bottom of the seventh to expand their lead.
  • Saint Peter's left the bases stranded themselves in the top of the eighth, but not before they were able to score a run off of a balk.
  • Hofstra tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth.

Notes

  • Abbatine, graduate infielder Chris Marquart, and sophomore catcher Cristian Perez each recorded hits for the Peacocks.
  • Abbatine and freshman Cole Watson each scored one run.
  • Markantonatos went six innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and struck out two batters.

Coach's Quote (Lou Proietti)

  • We didn't do enough to win a game at this level. Our execution level needs to improve if we hope to be successful this year.
  • There were a couple of positive plays today, however overall I was disappointed with how we played.
  • Hopefully we can regroup before we head south as we're about to play some really good teams.

Up Next

  • The Peacocks head to Farmville, Virginia, for a matchup with Longwood on Wednesday, Mar. 9. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
