Men’s Soccer Loses in Niagara

NIAGARA, NY- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team lost to Niagara 2-0 on Saturday night. 

Game Notes

• The Peacocks got off to a good start, as senior defender Tom Climpson tested the Niagara keeper in the fourth minute. His attempt was saved.
• Niagara took the lead in the 17th minute.
• Saint Peter's didn't register a shot for the rest of the half, as the score would remain 1-0 at the break.
• Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho was called into action in the 50th minute, stopping a Niagara attempt to keep the score 1-0.
• The Purple Eagles scored their second goal in the 57th minute.
• The game continued to get more physical as the Peacocks looked to claw their way back into the game. There were a total of seven bookings in the game.
• Badenes Mecho was called into action once more, but the Peacocks were unable to create any chance of their own, as the score would finish 2-0 in favor of Niagara.

Inside the Numbers

• The Peacocks registered five shots. Climpson and graduate defender Marco Torino each had two, while freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen also had one.
• Saint Peter's recorded one shot on target, which came from Climpson in the fourth minute.
• Badenes Mecho made three saves.
• Climpson, junior forward Conlan Paventi, and senior forward Antonio Green were each issued yellow cards.

• Tough start to the conference for us results wise.
• There's some technical aspects we need to clean up. We'll be working hard on the training ground in the next few days as we prepare for another tough trip on the road.

• The Peacocks conclude their long road trip in Maryland, when they take on Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, October 5th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
