Women’s Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale Against Sacred Heart Sunday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team lost to Sacred Heart University by a score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Game Notes:

  • The first half was quiet, with both teams combining for only five shots. Senior defender Brooke Boutchie tried her luck in the 40th minute from distance on a free kick, but her attempt was saved.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Annabelle Adams made four first half saves for the Peacocks to keep the score level at 0-0 throughout the half and into the break.
  • The Pioneers put the first score on the board in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Freshman midfielder Lula Mansilla Medina fired a shot to the lower left area of the goal in the 60th minute, but her attempt was stopped.
  • Sacred Heart immediately went the other way and scored in the 61st minute. They would score again in the 72nd minute and the 83rd minute.
  • Despite the Peacocks fighting hard throughout the game, they were unable to create any clear cut scoring chances, with the score finishing 4-0.

Coach's Quotes - Julia Bazi:

  • The score definitely didn't reflect the game. We were in it for 70 minutes until individual mistakes changed the game.
  • We start the conference next week so no more chances. We will prepare the team and have them ready.

Inside the Numbers:

  • The Peacocks registered six shots, with Boutchie, Mansilla Medina, senior defender Fatou Doucoure, senior defender Jazmin Brown, senior defender Kinlee Bruns and sophomore defender Leslie Pineda all recording one.
  • Boutchie, Bruns and Mansilla Medina each had one shot on goal.
  • Adams made five saves in the game, as she continues to lead all MAAC rookies in that category.

Up Next:

  • The Peacocks start conference play on Sunday, September 19, as they make the trek to Buffalo, New York to take on Niagara, scheduled for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
