Women's Soccer Opens 2021 Season at Jaroschak Against St. Francis Brooklyn

Game 1
Saint Peter's (0-0, 0-0) vs. St. Francis Brooklyn (0-0, 0-0)
Date: Thursday, August 19
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Location: Joseph J. Jaroschak Field, Jersey City, NJ

The Kick Off:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team will open its 2021 season on Thursday, August 19, at home, as the program hosts the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers (SFC) at Jaroschak Field.
  • The Peacocks are seeking their second season-opening win in three years on Thursday, following the 2019 season's 3-1 victory on opening day against Delaware State.
  • Saint Peter's only played in four games last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All four games were conference games.
  • The Peacocks will look to build upon their success in the non-conference slate, as two of their three victories came in out-of-conference action in 2019; that year,  the team secured wins against Delaware State (Aug. 23) and Hampton (Aug. 28) by margins of 3-1 and 1-0, respectively.
About the Opponent:
  • The Peacocks and the Terriers will meet for the first time ever on Thursday.
  • The Terriers posted a record of 2-5-1 in 2020, winning one of two on the road.
  • SFC is a relatively new program, debuting their women's soccer team in 2019.
  • The Terriers are 1-1 all-time in season openers.
Say Hello to the 2021 Peacocks: Meet the Staff:
  • Head coach Julia Bazi returns for her second season as head coach of the Saint Peter's University women's soccer team. She is back in Jersey City after serving as an assistant coach with the Peacocks from 2012-13.
  • In addition to her time at Saint Peter's, Bazi has held collegiate coaching positions at a number of prior stops, including three years as head coach at Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as assistant coaching positions at Fairleigh Dickinson and Franklin Pierce.
  • Bazi also enjoyed a highly impressive playing career, appearing in the 2000 and 2004 FIFA Women's World Cup for Australia while also playing on Australia's national side in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
  • Bazi is joined by assistant coach Brett Axelrod, who brings over a decade of coaching experience with him, having worked on staff at his alma mater Whitman College, as well as Fordham and LIU with a focus on goalkeepers.
  • Volunteer assistant coach Iudy De Araujo Lopes completes the coaching trio after playing with both Sacred Heart and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where he served as a coaching graduate assistant in 2019.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks are slated to head to Staten Island to face Wagner on Wednesday, August 25, at 7 p.m.
