Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, NJ – After a tough defeat in the series opener, the Saint Peter's University baseball team held Marist College off the board in the second game of the afternoon to earn a split on Saturday in Jersey City at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks won game two of the series 3-0, while dropping the first game 7-2. Saint Peter's record improves to 2-4 and Marist's record goes to 1-1.

How It Happened
- Both sides kept the opposition scoreless through the opening two innings.
- Marist would strike first, scoring one run in the top of the third.
- SPU quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning when senior captain Andrew Connor hit what was originally ruled a foul over the right field wall, but then overturned by the umpires to give him his first home run of the season.
- The game remained tied from that point on until the seventh and final inning with both team's defenses stepping up to the challenge.
- Peacocks' starting right-handed ace, Ian Concevitch got out of a jam in the fourth, forcing Marist to leave three runners on and stopping them from scoring the go-ahead run(s).
- In the fifth, Concevitch recorded a three up, three down inning and in relief, left-handed sophomore Christain Coombes did the same in the top of the six.
- In the seventh and final frame, Marist put together a six-run rally, to break open the game and go ahead 7-1.
- Saint Peter's would cross home plate once more in the last inning when Parker Gray drove in Michael Bonaccorso but that would be all the team could produce, falling 7-2.
Notes
- Concevitch put in 5.0 innings of work on the mound, striking out four, walking two, giving up six hits, and allowing one run in the no decision.
- Marist reliever Nick Cantone (1-0) was awarded the win with 2.0 innings on the mound.
- Coombes (0-1) received the decision in the defeat after 1.0 innings, two strikeouts, two hits allowed, and three earned runs.
- Gray was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate and was also hit by a pitch, reaching base four times.
- The true freshman also produced one RBI.
- Connor went 1-for-3, recording a home run, RBI, and one run scored.
- Sam Delcollo, Christain Perez, and Jake Wagner also manufactured hits in the contest.

How It Happened
- SPU put three balls in play through the first three innings of action but failed to convert the hits into runs, leaving things knotted at 0-0 heading into the fourth.
- After a 1-2-3 top of the fourth, the Peacocks got on the board first in the bottom half of the frame.
- Following an error which placed Matthew Dubois on first and a passed ball that advanced him to second, Nick Font connected on an RBI double to center, bringing home Dubois for the game's first run.
- Still leading 1-0 in the fifth, SPU added two more runs to extend its advantage to 3-0.
- With Carlos Aldama Jr. and Connor in scoring position, Delcollo hit a RBI double to right field which sent Aldama across home plate.
- Then Dubois hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Connor to tag up and score the team's third run of the evening.
- Over the game's final four innings, starting pitcher Jordan Warecke and the Peacock defense completely shut down Marist, recording 1-2-3 innings from the sixth through ninth innings with four total strikeouts, no hits, and no baserunners allowed.
Notes
- Warecke (1-1) earned his first career win in a Peacock uniform, going 8.0 innings, with six strikeouts, two hits, and no runs.
- The eight innings are the most he has pitched in a contest during his time in Jersey City and the six K's are a single-game high for him.
- Ryan Wappaus came in for the final three outs, picking up the first save of his career in the win for Saint Peter's.
- Connor was again one of the most efficient Peacocks at the plate, hitting 2-of-2 and recording a run scored.
- Font was 2-for-3 in his plate appearances, driving in a run, while Delcollo went 1-of-4 with an RBI and the team's only extra base hit with his double.
- Dubois had SPU's last RBI, which came by way of a sacrifice fly.
- Saint Peter's posted eight hits in the win and left nine on base, while holding Marist to just a pair of hits and striking out seven of the Red Foxes' batters.
