JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team dropped its home opener against Siena on Tuesday, ultimately falling to the Saints in a 4-1 decision. A strong offensive showing from the visitors in the first half saw them gain a 3-0 advantage at the break, but the Peacocks' defense was able to hold the Saints to one score in the second half. Jazmin Brown scored her first career goal in the waning moments of Tuesday's match, finding the back of the Siena net off the feed from junior captain
Stephanie Radakovic.
Game Notes
- Once again, Brown was on the attack early in the match, firing her first shot of the day within the fourth minute but missing her target on the high side.
- The Saints were then able to maintain control of the ball and would notch their first goal in the 17th minute, finding the upper right corner of the Saint Peter's net.
- The Saints then rattled off three more shots until finding the mark six minutes later to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Brown was able to record her first shot on goal at the 25' mark, but it was brought up just short by the Siena goalkeeper.
- Radakovic followed up the effort with a shot of her own just two minutes later, but it sailed wide right of target, leading to a goal kick for the Saints.
- Senior goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt denied the Saints offense in the 34th minute for her second save of the day, but a persistent Siena attack would find their final goal of the half two minutes later to go up 3-0.
- Sophomore Madison Greenberg then had her best look at goal of the day in the 39th minute, but a key stop by Siena's keeper would keep the Peacocks off the board.
- Saint Peter's was able to hold off Siena for the first 20 minutes of the second half before the Saints got their last goal of the day at the 69' mark.
- The Peacocks refused to give up though, and Brown would put the first Peacocks point on the board late in the game after receiving a quick pass from Radakovic inside the Siena box and finding the nylon in the 88th minute.
Inside the Numbers
- Brown has now recorded one goal and one assist through her last two outings.
- Radakovic's helper to Brown in the 88th minute also marks the first career assist for the junior midfielder.
- Brown finished the day with a team-leading five shots, while Radakovic, Greenberg, and junior Fatou Doucoure each recorded two shots in the affair.
- The Siena offense was relentless on Tuesday, recording 20 shots while eight of those were on target, while Saint Peter' fired off 10 shots of their own with four shots on goal.
