Peacocks drop contest to Jaspers on Friday afternoon

BRONX, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team came up short in its first game of 2020-21, falling to Manhattan by a 5-1 margin on Friday, March 26. A goal late in the first half from freshman Dominique Cummings proved to be the team's lone score of the day as the Peacocks fall to 0-1 to start the season.

Game Notes
  • The Peacocks started the game aggressively on the offensive front, as freshman Jazmin Brown fired off two shots in the first 12 minutes of action.
  • Junior Fatou Doucoure was then able to send the Peacocks' first shot on goal of the season at the 14' mark, but Manhattan's keeper was able to stop it short.
  • The Jaspers got on the goal first in the 16th minute of play off a corner kick that led to a header from Manhattan's Chloe Davis.
  • Both Doucoure and classmate Stephanie Radakovic were able to rattle off two more shots in the next nine minutes, but they were thwarted by the Manhattan Defense.
  • Manhattan's Bri DeLeo notched the hosts' second goal of the day at the 29' mark, putting in a shot from the left side of the net following a cross.
  • In the 40th minute, Cummings buried her first collegiate goal off the assist from the corner off the boot of classmate Jazmin Brown, bringing the score to 2-1.
  • The Jaspers got hot to start the second half, adding two more goals at the 47' and 51' mark to increase their advantage to 4-1.
  • The two sides went back and forth for the next 25 minutes until Manhattan scored their fifth goal of the day to take a 5-1 lead.
Inside the Numbers
  • Brown joins Cummings in career firsts on the day, notching her first collegiate assist on the corner kick that led to the Peacocks' lone goal.
  • Radakovic led Saint Peter's offensive effort, finishing with five shots while landing on target twice.
