Baseball Falls in Final Contest at Murray State

Peacocks close out the series in a 13-3 defeat

MURRAY, KY – The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped the final game of a four-game series at Murray State on Sunday, falling 13-3.
 
How it Happened
  • Murray St. scored two runs in the opening inning.
  • After no runs by either side in the second, Saint Peter's rallied with three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 advantage.
  • Andrew Veit was walked to lead off the inning and following the first out, he advanced to second on a wild pitch. 
  • Chris Marquart drove in Veit in with a RBI double down the right field line for the team's first score.
  • With Marquart on third and John Gavura on second, Anthony Ramos hit a base clearing double to center field, for the game-tying and go-ahead runs. 
  • The Peacocks defense recorded consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth, keeping a hold on the 3-2 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Murray St. retook the lead with a six hit, six run frame, putting Saint Peter's behind 8-3.
  • The Racers added five insurance runs from innings six through eight to end the game.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Saint Peter's registered three hits in the game with Marquart, Ramos, and Joey Vitiello each getting a hit.
  • Ramos led the squad with two RBI and Marquart recorded one RBI and one run.
  • Gavura and Veit also scored runs for the Peacocks.
  • Left-handed pitcher, Douglas Hall suffered the defeat after 2.0 innings of action.
